Natural Tree Growth Modeling

This was a final project for my Graphics class at MIT (6.837). Modeling vegetation can be tiring work, and may lead to unnatural results. For this project I studied L-Systems and how a psuedo-random algorithm can be used to create natural looking structures. I wanted to create trees that an artist could still guide input on, so I also focused on creating a specific user interface so algorithmic vegetation generation could be art directed. Available adjustable parameters included:

Outreach - How spread apart branches are on the x-y plane. Low outreach produced tall skinny trees while high outreach produced trees with arms stretching in all angles. Ground Cover - From a bird's eye view looking down on the tree, how much of the z-x plane branches covered. Low ground cover produced paper-thin trees while high ground cover produced full-bodied trees. Branch Depth - How "old" the tree was. High branch depth produced very dense trees with many branches, low branch depth produced young trees with only a couple branches. Show procedural modeling - when checked, this would provide cylinders so the user could see how much space their model would take in 3D space.

Me Too Website

I made this website during the "Me Too" social media movement. The peak of this movement took place while I was still at MIT, and at the time I saw many of my fellow students speak out about sexual harrassment and assault. I didn't feel comfortable sharing stories with my name attached, or repeating others with their names attached as well, but I wanted to help the conversation. I created this website in a one-woman 24 hour hacking session, so that people could anonymously partake in the movement, and still have a safe place to speak their mind. The site racked up over 10,000 visits, so many that it broke the visit counter! To this day it still has 98 submissions. I monitor it to ensure that it's a safe environment, and when a reply is left, provide resources for guidance and counseling if the user wishes to contact someone else.

My Me-too website can still be found here!

EVBTees

I like to make T-shirts in my free time! One day I hope to mass produce them easily so that my friends can have them too :) I like to focus on clever puns and keep the art vector/small doodles. I originally started them to make sure I continued to produce art even though I was on a busy schedule, but now I make them because they bring my friends and I joy. You can see them all here! with the hashtag #evbtees attached
